This Basic Clinical Observations training is targeted at health & social care staff who are taking basic clinical observations, also know as baseline baseline observations. Staff are required to show evidence that they have completed training and their competency to take and record basic clinical observations. This is a procedure being carried out by carers both in nursing and residential homes as well as across community-based settings.

Course Content
- What are basic clinical observations and why do we need to do them?
- Understand the anatomy and physiology that relates to clinical observations.
- Learn about normal and abnormal baseline observations/vital signs.
- Understand the clinical significance of abnormal vital sign readings.
- Perform a range of clinical observations under supervision including:
- Pulse
- Blood pressure
- Temperature
- Respiratory rate
- Oxygen saturations
- (AVPU) Consciousness assessment
- An introduction to the SBAR Tool
National Early Warning Score (NEWS2)
NEWS is a tool developed by the Royal College of Physicians which improves the detection and response to clinical deterioration in adult patients and is a key element of patient safety and improving patient outcomes.

Classroom Scenario Competency Assessments
Tidal Training is now able to bridge the gap between directed learning and competency-based practice. As an addition to the course you select, we can deliver an add on session of simulated classroom-based scenarios to enhance your manual dexterity and build up your confidence as you start your competency journey. This basic clinical observations practical session will supplement the directed training you have already had and prepare you better for competency-based assessment in the workplace. We will provide each delegate with a competency workbook which they can take back to their place of work following the course.
