Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (Qualsafe Accredited)

This qualification provides theoretical and practical training in emergency first aid techniques that are specific to infants aged under 1, and children aged from 1 year old to the onset of puberty. Learners undertaking this qualification will be able to provide support to the paediatric first aider to maintain the welfare of infants and children.

Learners will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation, such as a child or an infant who is unresponsive, has an airway obstruction, has breathing difficulties or is suffering from shock or anaphylaxis.

This qualification consists of one mandatory unit and is typically delivered over a period of 1 day with a minimum contact time of 6 hours.

All successful students will be issued with an Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate.

Who should attend? Day nursery staff, nannies, teachers, parents and anyone working with children.

There are 8 modules to complete:

Module 1 Introductions
Module 2 Role of the Paediatric First Aider
Module 3 Primary survey
Module 4 Secondary assessment
Module 5 Resuscitation and epilepsy
Module 6 Airway obstruction
Module 7 Wounds, bleeding and shock
Module 8 Anaphylaxis

Course Assessment and Certification

Learners must undertake a practical assessment of their competence along with a short open response knowledge assessment, where learners are required to provide a short response to a prescribed series of questions.

What Next?

This qualification lasts for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. In addition to this it is also recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
