Foster Care Training | First Aid For Foster Carers

This full day course First Aid For Foster Carers course provides the knowledge and skills required to perform First Aid to the children in your care. There is a combination of theory and practical exercises that will enable you to treat children and young people who have suffered accidents and received injuries as a result.

Training objectives        

The aim of this one day course is for you to feel confident in dealing with accidents and injuries acquired by children and young people.

Learning Outcomes        

If you apply what you have learnt on this course you will be able to:

Identify and apply first aid techniques to children and young people who you are caring for should it be required

Demonstrate with confidence the ability to deal with the following situations:

• allergic reaction
• asthma
• bleeding
• bone, muscle and joint injuries
• burns
• choking of all ages
• communication and care
• head injury
• poisoning
• primary survey
• resuscitation all ages
• role of the first aider
• unconscious casualty and childhood conditions

Course Pre-Requisites 

There is a level of physical ability required to complete this course successfully. In order to carry out the practical elements you will need to be able to work on the floor at various times throughout the course, including placing a casualty in the Recovery Position, various First Aid scenarios and simulated CPR on a manikin – which must be demonstrated on the floor.

Assessments: Practical assessments and a multiple choice exam paper will need to be passed in order to gain this qualification

Certification:  A certificate which is valid for 3 years is awarded to all successful students
