Maximum learners on this course is 12 and it will be delivered in one day over 7 guided learning hours.

- Role, responsibilities, definition of an infant and child, infection control, consent, accident/incident reports and personal protective equipment
- Incident and casualty assessment/management:
- Scene survey, primary survey and calling for help/information needed
- Adult CPR and AED
- Unresponsive casualty not breathing normally
- Recognition, treatment and practical assessment
- Adult CPR and AED (continued)
- Unresponsive casualty not breathing normally
- Recognition, treatment and practical assessment
- Infant and child CPR and AED
- Unresponsive casualty not breathing normally
- Recognition, treatment and practical assessment
- Unconscious casualty breathing normally
- Recognition, treatment and practical assessment
- Management of a seizure
Learners will be provided with suitable reference materials that covers learning outcomes for this qualification.

Intended audience
The combined course is for people who have a specific responsibility at work to maintain adequate first aid provision for both employees (adults) and paediatrics in their care.
Entry requirements
Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training and be able to perform practical tasks at floor level. There are no other formal entry requirements, but we strongly recommend that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
Assessments
Combined assessments have been created to allow Learners to undertake both the QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) and QA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) qualifications simultaneously over a minimum of 1 day.
Practical assessments
There are 6 practical assessments for this course:
• CPR and safe use of an AED
• Child CPR and safe use of an AED
• Infant CPR and safe use of an AED
• Unconscious casualty
• Choking casualty (EFAW/EPFA)
• Wounds, bleeding and shock (EFAW/EPFA)
Theory assessments
There is 1 x Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) paper for this course:
• Maximum time allowed: 15 mins
• Minimum score to be considered for a pass: 7 out of 10
Requalification requirements
Both the QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) and QA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) qualifications are valid for a period of 3 years. There are 3 options in relation to requalification:
1. Retake the full combined EFAW/EPFA course. Should both qualifications still be required, the full combined course should be taken.2. Attend a 1-day EFAW course. Should the Learner only need to requalify in EFAW, they would be eligible to undertake the 1-day EFAW qualification. Note, only the QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) would be achieved with this option.
3. Attend a 1-day EPFA course. Should the Learner only need to requalify in EPFA, they would be eligible to undertake the 1-day EPFA qualification. Note, only the QA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) would be achieved with this option.
