Welcome to the “Excellence in Care Series”

We understand that a lot of businesses find it difficult to release all staff to attend training.  For this reason we are now running open courses at our training venue in Cheltenham to give organisations and individuals the opportunity to book onto a course with minimum disruption to the working day.

Our open courses are ideal for anyone working in the healthcare sector.  You can attend the courses as an individual or a number of your staff can be booked onto the course.   There are a maximum of 15 places available.

Basic Clinical Observations Training Including Practical Assessments and Recording

Healthcare Assistants working in the NHS, Private sector hospitals and clinics are now required to show evidence that they have completed training and their competency to take and record basic clinical observations. These are also procedures being carried out by support workers in nursing homes,residential homes and other healthcare settings.

This Basic Clinical Observations training has been designed for Healthcare Assistants who are looking to improve their medical skills and knowledge and will enable them to be employed within hospital environments.

Why, when and how observations are conducted, the normal range for each observation and how to record as well as action to be taken outside the range are also covered.

Course Content:

  • Understand the anatomy and physiology that relates to clinical observations
  • Learn about normal and abnormal clinical observations/vital signs
  • Understand the clinical significance of abnormal vital sign readings
  • Perform a range of clinical observations under supervision including:


Blood pressure


Respiratory rate

Oxygen saturations

(AVPU) Consciousness assessment

  • The NEWS scoring system
  • NEWS thresholds and triggers
  • NEWS observation chart

Course Assessment and Certification

The assessment is completed with simulated practical assessments and recording and on successful completion of the training learners will be issued with a certificate of attendance which is valid for 2 years.

Cost:  £78.00 per person which includes refreshments and lunch.
