This Mental Health Act Introduction course ensures a basic understanding of the key provisions of the Mental Health Act Code of Practice and the rights of service users under the Act. It is targeted at staff who require some knowledge of the Mental Health Act in their role, such as Mental Health Practitioners, Health Care Support Workers and qualified nurses who are unfamiliar with the English Mental Health Act.
Info & Booking EnquiryThe course provides an overview of the Mental Health Act including many examples of why, how and by whom it can be applied. Learners are also given an overview of specific and relevant sections of the Act, the statutory duties of the detaining authority and the governance arrangements in place.
Aims of the course:
To outline the legal and practical implications of the Mental Health Act, the Policies and Procedures appropriate to Mental Health Professionals and staff and to provide an understanding of the Codes of practice required within the Act.
Objectives of the course:
By the end of the course students will:
•Know the Principles of the MHA 2007
•How they are applied
•The relevant law relating to MHA and MCA
•What’s ‘Sectioning’ and the what each means
•Your role as a Professional within the MHA
Course Assessment and Certification
Assessment will be by continuous assessment by the trainer – there is no ‘test’ paper.
A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of course.
