This Visual Impairment Awareness training is designed to give learners an insight into the barriers that visually impaired individuals may face and to gain a better understanding of how attendees can help to remove these barriers. This course will give staff the confidence and skills to better assist and support those living with sight loss.
Info & Booking EnquiryWhy Visual Impairment Awareness Training Matters
As people age, visual function often declines: reduced clarity, poorer contrast sensitivity, narrowed visual fields, or trouble with depth perception. In the UK, almost 80% of those affected by sight loss are aged 65 or older. Between 1.6 and 2.2 million people in this age group live with some degree of visual impairment.
This matters because vision impairment is a major risk factor for falls and injuries. Older adults with reduced vision are roughly twice as likely to fall compared to those with good vision.
Course content
- Eye conditions and their effects
- The emotional impact of sight loss
- How to assist and guide a visually impaired or blind person
