This AuDHD training will enable staff to support the needs of individuals who are both autistic and ADHD. It focuses on how overlapping and sometimes conflicting traits can shape communication, attention, behaviour, regulation and wellbeing in structured and relational environments.

AuDHD training for Schools, Nurseries, Education & Care supports staff to move beyond single-profile approaches and develop flexible, compassionate strategies that balance predictability with autonomy. Learners gain a clearer understanding of why autism-only or ADHD-only strategies may be insufficient, and how to create conditions in which AUDHD individuals feel safe, understood and able to thrive.
AuDHD training Aims and Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Develop a clear understanding of AuDHD as the intersection of autism and ADHD, including key overlaps and internal tensions.
- Recognise how AuDHD traits may present across attention, communication, emotional regulation, behaviour and energy levels.
- Understand why single-condition approaches can inadvertently increase stress, anxiety or burnout for AuDHD individuals.
- Identify masking, overload and exhaustion, including when these are hidden behind apparent compliance or high effort.
- Apply balanced strategies that combine predictability and flexibility, supporting both autistic and ADHD needs simultaneously.
- Use trauma-aware, low-arousal and neurodiversity-affirming approaches to reduce distress and support regulation.
- Reflect on existing practice and adapt environments, routines and language to better meet AuDHD needs.
- Value individual strengths when planning support and responding to challenges.
Prerequisite and Course Format
This course assumes that all learners have completed Autism and ADHD awareness training.
Where learners already have Autism and ADHD awareness, this course is delivered as a half-day AuDHD top-up, focusing specifically on the overlap and combined support needs.
Where learners do not have prior Autism and ADHD awareness training, the content is delivered as a full-day course, incorporating essential Autism and ADHD awareness alongside the AuDHD focus.
The course is adapted to the experience level of the group to ensure shared understanding, consistent language and meaningful engagement.
Assessment & Certification
Assessment will be by continuous assessment by the trainer – there is no ‘test’ paper. A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of course.
