Buccal training is specifically targeted at those working with individuals who are prescribed Buccal rescue medication.

Learners attending this course must have prior training in Epilepsy Awareness

• Classification and management of tonic clonic seizures.
• Ethical and legal responsibilities.
• Patient/client centred care planning and recording.
• Epilepsy, mortality and Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).
• The impact of rescue medication and anti-epileptic drug therapies.

Buccal Training Assessment and Certification

The Buccal Training assessment is completed with simulated practical assessments and on successful completion of the training learners will be issued with a certificate of attendance which is valid for 2 years.

Online Buccal Assessment:

For an additional fee, you have the option of signing your staff up to an online Buccal assessment.

We have partnered with Virtual College and this will allow us to sign staff up to the online assessment and monitor who completes the assessment, who passes or needs additional support.  On completion of the assessment a certificate will be provided.

Tidal will monitor everything at our head office and you will be sent reports on who has.

• Completed the assessment.
• Passed the assessment.
• Needs to retake the assessment.

Recommendation on Buccal Administration Re-Training

It is recognised that the administration of Buccal is an emergency treatment which may or may not be used on a regular basis. The frequency which support workers use the procedure will have an impact on their level of skill and confidence.

It is recommended therefore that individuals attend a refresher course within two years.
