Oxygen Therapy Training

This Oxygen Therapy training course will provide learners with a greater understanding of the human lungs and the relationship between disease and oxygen deprivation. We will explore reasons why oxygen is administered in certain conditions and give awareness of the risks involved using oxygen therapy. Learners are continuously assessed throughout the course. The practical based part of the session can only be provided if your equipment is available on site.

Course Content

The syllabus covers topics such as:

• Anatomy and physiology of the Respiratory System
• Understanding oxygen
• The clinical need for oxygen
• Care and safety of medical gases
• Equipment
• Potential hazards
• Prescription only medicines Act (POM)
• General guidelines on oxygen administration
• Health and safety
• Procedures
• Ethical and legal responsibilities

Oxygen Therapy Training Assessment and Certification

Learners will be issued with a certificate of attendance which is valid for 2 years.

Recommendation on Re-Training

It is recognised that the administration of oxygen is a clinical procedure which may or may not be used on a regular basis. The frequency which individuals use the procedure will have an effect on their level of skill and confidence.

It is recommended therefore that individuals attend an oxygen training refresher course within 2 years.
