Neurodiversity Awareness is an introductory course exploring autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other neurodivergent experiences.
Course Summary
This Neurodiversity Awareness course offers a clear and practical introduction to neurodiversity and the wide range of ways neurodivergence can affect thinking, communication, learning, movement, sensory processing, and emotional wellbeing. It helps participants build a broader understanding of neurodivergent experiences while encouraging more inclusive and individualised support.
Participants explore key areas of neurodiversity, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, and Tourette’s syndrome. The course explains common differences and barriers neurodivergent people may face, including sensory overload, executive functioning difficulties, misunderstanding, stigma, and environments that are not designed with different needs in mind. It also looks at masking, anxiety, burnout, meltdowns, shutdowns, and stimming, helping staff understand how distress or overwhelm may present in everyday settings.
