Self Harm Training

This Self Harm Training is essential for anyone who supports vulnerable individuals who are at risk of attempting suicide or self-harm by a number of means. This course gives you skills and knowledge to recognise self harm and ligature injuries.

The term ‘self-harm’ is used to describe a wide range of behaviours. Self-harm is often understood to be a physical response to emotional pain of some kind, and can be extremely addictive. Some self harm behaviours individuals do are quite well known, such as cutting, burning or pinching, but there are many, many ways to injure oneself , including abusing drugs and alcohol or having an eating disorder. Sometimes, it’s more important to focus on how someone is feeling rather than what they are doing to themselves.

Everyone has accidents from time to time resulting in cuts, scratches and bruises – but it’s the injuries that are caused on purpose that are considered to be acts of self-harm. Self-harm often happens during times of distress, anger, fear, worry, depression or low self-esteem in order to manage or control negative feelings.

This self harm training is taught onsite for groups of up to fifteen students.

Self Harm Training Assessment and Certification

Those students who complete the course and are deemed to have reached the required standard will be awarded a certificate of attendance which is valid for two years.
