PICA is a condition where someone feels a strong urge to eat non-food items. This can include things like dirt, chalk, paper, or even soap. It’s not just a one-time thing—people with PICA regularly consume these objects, which can lead to serious health issues.

PICA is more common in children, pregnant women, and individuals with learning disabilities or mental health challenges.

The reasons behind it can vary—sometimes it’s linked to stress, nutritional deficiencies, or other health conditions.

Because eating non-food items can be dangerous, it’s important to recognise the signs of PICA early and provide the right support to keep individuals safe.

Info & Booking Enquiry

During this course, delegates will gain an understanding of what PICA Eating Disorder is and how to support patients/clients who exhibit this behaviour, as well as learning how to create safe environments for them.

Throughout the PICA Awareness training, the facilitator will use a variety of methods, including short presentations, discussions, group activities, and role-play exercises. Participants will be encouraged to draw on examples from their own work, with strict confidentiality and anonymity of service users maintained at all times.
