Tashy Penhale "I have spent the last three days doing the PCISD training. I have really enjoyed the course, and feel like I have not only learnt new information but consolidated old information. The trainer has been incredible; she has been available throughout the three days and has supported me brilliantly." Carrie Roberts "The PCISD training was exceptional. She created a safe and supportive learning environment, while teaching practical, trauma informed skills that I feel equipped to use immediately." Jodie Chippendale "Very well organised. Resources were shared in advance of the training which helped. Nice and clear structure. The facilitator did a great job, thank you!" Helen Baldwin "Attended the serious incident de brief training with colleagues from the NHS as this is the model we use to support staff throughout our trust. Very informative 3 days, well facilitated and I now feel I have the skills to facilitate de brief session and provide support to our staff." Julie Michelle "I did the Tidal PCISD (Post Critical Incident Stress Debriefing) training and it was truly wonderful. She’s incredibly approachable, very sensitive to the group, and guides you through the training with so much clarity, humour and care. You can feel that she gives her absolute best." Pete Reeve "It was excellently run over Zoom and the level of knowledge and experience from our tutor was outstanding. I'd highly recommend it to any organisation that works in stressful and emotive environments." Mike Rowe "Excellent 3 days on the Critical Incident Debriefing Facilitator course which built perfectly on the 2 days of Psychological First Aid Training. Course structure and content was top drawer." Geraint Williams "Just completed the psychological first aid and stress debrief course. Excellent training. This has given me confidence to support people in some of the most challenging situations. It has improved my skills and I would highly recommend it to most people in a pastoral support situation." Lena Palmer "Great experience. Both courses expertly & professionally delivered via zoom. Highly recommend this training provider."

PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT OF PSYCHOSOCIAL HAZARDS AND RISKS

INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) core Convention on Occupational Safety and Health, 1981 (No. 155), and its accompanying Recommendation (No. 164) provide for the adoption, implementation and review of a coherent national policy on OSH and measures for its application at national and workplace levels with the aim of protecting workers’ physical and mental health and wellbeing. ILO Convention No. 155 is complemented by the Recommendation on the List of Occupational Diseases, 2002 (No. 194), which provides for regular review and updating of the ILO list of occupational diseases contained in the Annex of the Recommendation through tripartite meetings of experts.

The ILO list, updated in 2010, covers mental and behavioural disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD),

POST CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS DEBRIEFING FACILITATOR TRAINING COURSE DESCRIPTION

Post-incident stress management (PISM) comprises a range of crisis intervention services that include:

Pre-crisis management (stress prevention and management) both individual and at organisational level

Intra-crisis management (individual crisis counselling often referred to as psychological first aid)

Post-crisis management (group debriefing of a homogenous group (people who have been through the same critical incident together)) and post-incident referral for 1-1 counselling for those still suffering from symptoms following a critical incident.

  • Acute stress is a body’s normal reaction to an abnormal event.
  • Normalisation of the traumatised person’s/persons’ experience and validation of their experiences and responses are critical goals of this programme, as well as identifying those that require referral for further assistance.
  • It is important for organisations to have systems in place to deal with critical incidents and the subsequent distress and disorder in order to create a healthy work ethos and environment during and after critical incidents.

The course is intended for two purposes:

  • Where a major incident has occurred at work, e.g., multiple deaths, an assault, a suicide of a patient or a colleague, hostage-taking of a patient or colleagues, murder, witnessing or being involved in terrible accidents, etc.
  • Where a major incident has occurred in the locality, “beyond the scope of business-as-usual operations”, e.g., an infectious disease outbreak, an explosion at work, a terrorist act, a power outage, or a natural disaster such as a flood, an aeroplane crash, a damaged building, or rising floodwater.

TARGET AUDIENCE (Maximum 12 learners per course)

  • Health care professionals (doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, first responders – paramedics, firefighters, police, etc.)
  • Mental health professionals (Social workers, Psychologists, Therapists, Welfare Officers, Wellness/Wellbeing Managers, EAP personnel, etc.)
  • Workplace Professionals (managers, human resource personnel, occupational health & safety personnel, educators, etc.).
  • Religious personnel (Chaplains, Pastoral counsellors, Ministers, etc.)
  • Organisations that desire to promote and ensure a fundamental and standardised knowledge base among its personnel who respond to crisis and trauma,
  • Any other professionals involved in the care of individuals and groups following traumatic incidents.
